Application Process

A maximum of 28 students are selected each spring to enter the professional portion of the program the following fall. In order to be eligible for entrance into the Veterinary Technology Professional Program students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Successfully complete at least 12 credits of classes at NDSU.
  2. Complete VETS 115, Medical Terminology and VETS 125, Animal Restraint with grades of C or better.

Applications for admission to the Veterinary Technology Professional Program at North Dakota State University will be evaluated on a 100-point scale according to four criteria: academic performance, experience with the veterinary profession, a reference from a veterinary technician or veterinarian, and two general references. Maximum possible points in each category are:

Academic performance - 60 points - calculated by multiplying the cumulative NDSU GPA x 15. (For example, if you have an NDSU GPA of 3.0 that will be worth 45 points out of the maximum of 60 points.)

Experience with the veterinary profession - 20 points - one point for each 2 hours of veterinary clinic profession observation up to 20 points (for example, if you observe in a veterinary clinic for 32 hours that will be worth 16 points out of the maximum 20 points)

Reference from a veterinarian or veterinary technician - 10 points

Two General references @ 5 points each = 10 points

Each application for the Veterinary Professional Program should contain:

  • Supplemental Application Form - printable form below
  • 1 Veterinary Reference Form - printable form below
  • 2 General Reference Forms - printable form below
  • Transcript - which you request from the Registrar's Office
  • Goal Statement
  • Written Verification of hours spent in a veterinary clinic signed by a veterinary technician or veterinarian.
